Tasting Notes: Lakefront Klisch Pilsner
Lakefront Brewery is summer incarnate, what with its packed patio, best-in-the-country Friday fish frys, and laid-back Wisconsin ‘tude. This pilsner echoes those same summer notes; it’s not the best example of a style, but one of the most refreshing warm-weather beers we’ve tried yet.
Crack the cap and Klisch smells. Like. Beer. The aroma’s simply lovely, and not too light; there’s a lot to sniff — sweetness, hops, and sunshine. Very bright and clear, orangey gold, the taste is sweet with a tough of alcohol and some bitterness at the back of the swallow, though no strong hop flavors — akin to a blonde. The mouthfeel is much creamier and heartier than what’s typical, and there’s not much of those crips, airy notions one expects in a pilsner. That said, we <I>like</I> those diversions, and any beer geek who typically strays from pilsners in favor of something bigger will like them, too. Thought it doesn’t hold up well to BJCP pilsner standards, Klisch is an excellent sessionable summer brew.
