To our amusement, it’s been a rough couple of days for highways, beer trucks, and bridges. On Friday, a semi filled with booze crashed on an interstate overpass, spilling its load on to the road below.

Early this morning, a Miller Lite truck caught on fire on a Houston freeway, causing the requisite amount of chaos. The accident covered Beltway 8 in thick black smoke, really screwing up the morning commute. It took three trucks worth of firefighters to put out the flames. Life, eventually, returned to normal. Good thing we have the pictures to prove it happened.

Virginia is for massive beer spills

Another beer spill, this time in Virginia.

Around 11 p.m. Sunday, a tractor-trailer loaded with beer from the Coors brewery outside Elkton was headed west when it ran off the right side of the road near Penn Laird.

The tractor-trailer crashed into a ditch and overturned, spilling its contents - beer cans and other debris - into the roadway and nearby, said 1st Sgt. Bryan Hutcheson with the Virginia State Police.

The westbound lanes were shut down for several hours while crews cleaned up the mess, and workers were out fixing residual damage to the road Monday.

New goal: One spill in every state this year.

(Bonus feature: There’s an entire Web site dedicated to this. Our day=booked.)

A fruity beer spill

What’s worse than a semi filled with beer flipping over and spilling its contents on the road? Well nothing, but a semi filled with lime-flavored beer comes pretty close.

That’s exactly what happened on Friday morning in Madison, Wisconsin. A truck carrying bottles of fruit-infused brews crashed on the city’s Far East Side, sending thousands of ounces of beer (and some diesel fuel) cascading down the street. Two lanes of Highway 151 going northbound had to be shut down.

Police charged the driver of the truck with failure to control speed. That must have left a sour taste in his mouth.

Another day, another beer spill

Man, there’s nothing better than getting to the office on a Monday morning and reading about another beer spill. Better yet, there’s video (and it’s terrifying and awesome).

A tractor trailer truck carrying Bud Light cans hit the side of a bridge in Butler Township, Ohio, spilling its load on to the highway below.

Sgt. Jeff Kramer sets the stage: “A pretty wild scene. A lot of debris. Probably hundreds and probably thousands of cans of beer were spilled on Interstate 75.”

The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and charged with failure to control. Click here to see footage from a local newscast.

Another beer truck crashes

Just a week after a truck carrying 40,000 pounds of beer flipped over, another semi truck crashed in Vermont. Luckily no one was injured but the truck did hit a bunch of power lines before coming to rest in a swamp.

Traffic in Swanton, VT was delayed, although officials were able to keep at least one lane of Route 78 open. That might change later today, however, as the truck will need to be pulled out of the swamp. This would be a good example of why you shouldn’t drive your tractor trailer truck into the woods.

Miller truck loses beer load

It’s been awhile since a beer truck tipped over and spilled its cargo, but early this morning it happened again. A truck carrying 40,000 pounds of beer (seriously, who measures beer in pounds?) flipped while traveling on Illinois’ Tri-State Tollway. Luckily, no one was seriously injured, and traffic patterns returned to normal quickly. It wasn’t, however, an occasion for passersby to pick up some free booze.

“I would advise nobody to go out there and get themselves a six-pack,” Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Robert Fierstein said. “There are plenty of cops on the scene.”

So party at Police HQ?

(And look, it happened twice. That’s amazing, actually.)
