  1. There are beer bloggers??? Why are I not reading these? I introduced friends to Old Speckled Hen this weekend and OSH has some new fans!
    Mark

  2. I personally love the guys&gals from DosBeerigos.com they always put a funny spin on beer.

  3. Craft Austin. How come more bloggers are not pimping their sites? Or am I the only shameless one?

  4. That’s a tough one, because I read so many good beer blogs - but, at the moment, I’d have to say Don & Jim @ beerandwhiskeybros.com. They keep it light, have a lot of interaction with their readers and are just all around good people. They get my vote.

  5. My favorite is 100beers30days. You really have to check it out.

  6. http://beerforthedaddy.blogspot.com/ This guy is funny, interesting and easy to read. Also lots of good info on local fairs, events, etc…

  7. My favorite Beer Blogger is Ashley V Routson aka @TheBeerWench , her website is http://drinkwiththewench.com/ and there’s ALWAYS something good and amusing there!. Check her out!

  8. My favorite blog is http://www.fuggled.net, I love getting a global perspective on beer as Velky Al has lived in the Czech Republic, is British and now lives in Virginia. He has an easy to read style and isn’t all precious about beer!!

  9. Im a fan of Http://Dosbeerigos.com as well, the guy The Ferm knows what he is talking about, in a funny way.

  10. Well, besides my own I like Jay Brooks from brookstonbeerbulletin.com,Drinkwiththewench.com, and Simply Beer. But I have been seeing more people talking about beerandwhiskeybros, but I have not personally been on their site yet.

  11. The Beer Wench has the best beer blog! Her website http://drinkwiththewench.com/ is both humorous and educational, which is something that is lacking from many others.

  12. I LOVE Lost in the Beer Aisle! http://www.lostinthebeeraisle.com/

  13. I began following Lost in the Beer Aisle months ago. The blogger makes beer reviews understandable to a non-beer drinker like myself. The blogger inserts just the right degree of personal information without encroaching on the purpose of the blog.

  14. Definitely Ashley the Beer Wench - http://drinkwiththewench.com/

  15. http://www.lostinthebeeraisle.com/ is by far the best!

  16. What people really don’t know is that I’ve registered multiple accounts and I have been voting myself … jk.

  17. http://beerandnosh.com/

  18. Must say of all the blogs I’ve read, http://www.lostinthebeeraisle.com is by far my favorite. Not only does he have a vast knowledge of beer, we’ve seen him evolve. He interjects just enough personal info to make you feel like you know him, but not enough to interfere with the true purpose of the blog, informing us layman about the hundreds of different beers that can be enjoyed. If you haven’t checked it out I highly suggest you do.

  19. Lost in the beer aisle iz da realist !

  20. I enjoy lostinthebeeraisle.com

  21. I love Beer for the Daddy’s blog: http://beerforthedaddy.blogspot.com/

  22. The Beer Wench. I’m just getting into beers and I find it a good resource. http://drinkwiththewench.com/

  23. Deverie Robinson Hart http://hurrabier.com/

  24. hurrabier.com just wrote a great series on women in beer. great stuff hurrabier.com.

  25. The OTHER Beer Wench (the one in Michigan) is pretty hot ( she says in a completely shameless manner)
    http://www.a2beerwench.com
    cheers!

  26. I love http://www.hurrabier.com, especially the Women in Beer interview series.

  27. I love the straight-up descriptions and embarrassing photos of http://www.lostinthebeeraisle.com/

  28. Lost In The Beer Aisle, definitely. Good pictures, quality reviews, enough personal information that it’s intriguing and easy to read. He’s also got good taste. REALLY good taste.

  29. Lost In The Beer Aisle, definitely. Good pictures, quality reviews, enough personal information that it’s intriguing and easy to read. He’s also got good taste. REALLY good taste.

  30. This is a delightful blog about women in beer. An interesting perspective, and very informative!

  31. http://www.hurrabier.com !!!

  32. Without a doubt, 100beers30days. I have learned more about beer since following her blogs than I ever thought possible. (and she knows how to rock a pair of Manolo Blahniks too!)

  33. My preference is for the lovely Deverie Robinson @ http://hurrabier.com/
    that girl knows her beer!

  34. Drink With The Wench - http://drinkwiththewench.com/

    Ashley “Beer Wench” Routson

  35. Putting in a vote for Lost @ http://www.lostinthebeeraisle.com

  36. Http://DosBeerigos.com it’s some funny stuff!

  37. I like the Cooking Asshole over at http://cookingforassholes.blogspot.com/ Yes, he does a lot of recipes and cooking, but if you look on the right column you will see by the “beer” tag that there are 90 reviews, pretty substantial.

Warning. He’s going to curse and call you names, so if you don’t like that style of humor, try the others above. They are all terrific!

  38. This is tough. I love http://www.dosbeerigos.com and http://www.dailybeerreview.com for folks from Florida. Then http://www.thankheavenforbeer.com is probably my favorite outside the state.

  39. I love http://www.simplybeer.com great beer reviews, homebrewing, podcasts, and eve cooking recipes.

  40. I’m kinda partial to The Southern Beer Review http://squaresouth.com/sbr More of a podcast than a beer blog but still really good. You have beer podcasts and blogs for the serious beer geeks and then you have these guys. Must See. Also http://www.simplybeer.com http://www.dosbeerigos.com

  41. I second that for Simply Beer! Awesome reviews and podcasts. http://www.simplybeer.com/blog/

  42. I’m a big fan of http://www.topfermented.com/ - Erik provides a great blend of beer, tech, startup, social media and general snarkiness.

  43. I must say that http://www.simpleybeer.com has been my favorite blog for quite some time now!

  44. Hands down- Simply Beer! My go to source for all things beer. http://www.simplybeer.com

  45. I’m another fan of SimplyBeer.com. I follow on the blog and Twitter. I attended one of Peter’s events recently and learned a great deal. http://www.simplybeer.com/blog/

  46. Simply Beer!

  47. I’m a huge fan of http://www.topfermented.com/ - Erik really puts a lot of thought and time into his informative (and entertaining) posts.

i second shieldsy - just the right amount of snark

  48. There are so many great bloggers out there, but I places my top four in a hat and chose:

Seen Through a Glass- Lew Bryson.

Props should be given to The Beer Wench, Lost and a Beer Aisle and Thank Heaven for Beer.

  49. Hands down, Simply Beer! http://www.simplybeer.com

  50. http://blogaboutbeer.com by Luke. Of course, he’s not blogging much and is opening his own craft brewery up in Maine, but it’s been my favorite for a while!

  51. Al Everett from Hop Talk. http://hop-talk.com

  52. Scottie Knows Beer - a simple guy with an unique understanding of beer. Experimental brewer with a tenacious love for beer. This is one of my favorite blogs, includes interviews w/brewers as well as intimate description of the different beer being sampled. Huge fan.

http://scottieknowsbeer.com/ <~ go check it out.

  53. Definitely http://hurrabier.com/ by Deverie Robinson!! She’s an excellent writer and knows her beer. Great blog.

  54. I’m a big fan of Scottie Knows Beer as well. It’s pretty diverse in the coverage of different beers, but he also has funny/witty articles other than just beer reviews, like beer road trips, brewery tours, and beer fests.

So, I’d say this is more experiential blogging than just categorizing and rating random beers.

  55. Simply Beer is by far the best beer blog!!!!! http://www.simplybeer.com/blog/ - check it out! Don’t look while at work - could lead to drinking on the job! oh know!

  56. besides my own, Simplybeer.com, Reviews, Homebrewing, Podcasts, and anything else that has to do with beer! (Shameless, I know!) Gotta give a shout to ThankHeavenForBeer, Hoptopia, TheBrewClub and the BeerandWhiskeyBros! These are my daily reads!

  57. Gonzalo from BeerBin.com on the Blog.BeerBin.com site. Short & sweet reviews about Beers, Bars in Chicago and Beer Related Events.

  58. http://hurrabier.com/
Dev knows beer. She drinks beer. She loves beer. It all really shows in her blog. Deverie Robinson, big time.

  59. I’d say the one Nate and I write is my favorite. Simplybeer, Top Fermented, Beer and Whiskey Bros, Brew Club. Thanks to Mike at Mikelovesbeer, too.

  60. http://100beers30days.wordpress.com/ This girl knows her beer!

  61. This is the best blog i have seen out there, check it out. 100beers30days.wordpress.com

  62. http://100beers30days.wordpress.com/
This girl knows her beer and she is just sooo much fun to hang out with!

  63. Laurie is the best! 100beers30days can’t be beat!

  64. http://100beers30days.wordpress.com. This girl knows more about beer than anyone else I’ve read. She also has excellent taste and I trust her reviews to lead me to good local watering holes.

  65. http://beerandnosh.com — Great photos, interesting topics

  66. http://www.hurrabier.com rocks my socks. It has great ideas for cooking with beer and ways to pair greta beers with great food. YUM!

  67. http://www.hop-cast.com

  68. http://hurrabier.com/
Deverie gets my vote, she LOVES beer!

  69. I drink a lot of beer myself, that why I recommend http://hurrabier.com/

  70. laurie delk is the bee’s knees. http://100beers30days.wordpress.com

  71. A girl who knows her beer and is smokin’ hot!?!!?! Where have you been all my life?!

  72. Listen…Laurie is amazing! She captures the nuances of beers just like she does wines. Amazing palate, nose, and overall perception. Even better, she knows how to translate what she tastes, sees, and smells into inciteful, exciting descriptive passages. If you’re not reading this blog, you should be!

  73. 100beers30days is great! Laurie writes excellent reviews-
    she knows her beer!!!

  74. I’ve come to trust in Laurie Delk’s taste in beer. http://100beers30days.wordpress.com

  75. i like laurie with 10beers30days. always fun to read, good pics and what beers i’ve been able to get ahold of have been spot on.

  76. Awesome beer photography on Denver bartender examiner

  77. I like http://www.OCBeerSociety.com for local beer info…

  78. http://lostinthebeeraisle.com/ is the best!

  79. Absolutely Simply Beer!! :))

  80. Thanks to all who have mentioned our site here - we’re tickled. We love us some http://www.thebrewclub.com , http://www.thankheavenforbeer.com ,and of course http://www.simplybeer.com .

If you don’t know these sites, start clicking links, people! You’ll make some new friends quickly.

  81. Damn, I have to choose just one? It’s kind of a moving target. There’s so many quality brew bloggers right now. Having said that, http://www.beerandwhiskeybos.com seems to be what I’m reading most these days.

  82. http://beerandnosh.com, because the quality of his blog work is what I aspire to

    and

http://www.stlhops.com, because of how the blog has become a hub the craft beer community in st. louis.

  83. My vote goes for Don & Jim @ beerandwhiskeybros.com.
They have a good information presented in a witty manner, good pictures, slice of life stuff that I like and they’re brothers which makes it kinda fun.If you haven’t checked them out, maybe you should.

  84. http://brookstonbeerbulletin.com/

Brookston Beer Bulleting is a great mix between smart reporting, commentary, history and feel-good beeriness. One of American craft beer’s biggest advocates and smartest contributors. Cheers, Jay!

  85. http://www.functionalbeer.com is my favorite. He’s pretty funny.

  86. SimplyBeer Is always a good read with great reviews

  87. Kalamabrew is the best.

  88. I love Http://dosbeerigos.com and Mikelovesbeer.com both are new finds for me and great!

  89. http://www.functionalbeer.com is probably my favourite at this point.

  90. I love @dosbeerigos!

  91. My vote for best written Beer Blog : Simply Beer http://www.simplybeer.com

My vote for best video Beer Blog : Hopcast http://www.hop-cast.com

  92. Mark Starr of http://www.thehopry.com

  93. Mark Starr @ http://thehopry.com/ gets my vote. you should check him out.

  94. I really like Laurie Delk and Ashley Rouston. But Hurrabier.com is also one of my faves.

  95. thehopry.com, of course!

  96. I enjoy the humor and experimentation in http://www.functionalbeer.com/ That dude’s got my vote!

  97. Check out @http://thehopry.com. Great reviews, very knowledgable about not only the beer he reviews but also the brewery that brewd the beer.

  98. http://thehopshoney.wordpress.com/ Love the hops honeys growing blog! She’s got great taste and is tons of fun. Stay tuned to her for sure.

  99. Thanks for all the Dosbeerigos.com Love my peoples.

There are several beer blogs I read on a daily basis, but the first blog I followed religiously was MikeLovesBeer.com

  100. I have to support some of the other wonderful women who are writing about beer… to name a few…

    * Maggie does wonderful beer round-ups & interviews with brewers! http://www.seriouseats.com/user/profile/Maggie%20Hoffman
    * Clare canvasas the NY beer scene… not just Manhattan!http://www.BeerGoggins.com
    * Stevie makes me laugh. She also educates me. What more could you ask for?http://basicallyread.wordpress.com
    * Deverie is a woman writing about beer… and highlights women IN beer (no, not literally IN beer… but hey, Deverie, that might be a fun angle! lol)… so that’s pretty fantastic! http://hurrabier.com
    * Laurie’s blog is a great concept & is brilliantly executed by one of the cutest girls on the beer-blogging scene! http://100beers30days.wordpress.com

    Ok, I’m done :)

  101. http://www.functionalbeer.com - gonna be huge.

  102. I actually enjoy http://www.beergoggins.com - it’s quite the entertaining blog and it’s based in New York, which rocks.

  103. Mark Starr @www.thehopry.com - always a good, knowledgable review and probably the best intro music around!

  104. http://www.brewreviewer.blogspot.com I like the BJCP rating system used.

  105. I personally read the following daily.

    Alesfromthecrypt.com
    Dosbeerigos.com
    SimplyBeer.com

All good in their own way.

  106. My absolute favorite is http://www.functionalbeer.com. That guy is awesome!

  107. Peter Estaniel is the best beer blogger out there. His passion for beer is unsurpassed and he always shows up to all the events in our area. If you haven’t checked him out yet, go to http://www.betterbeerblog.com All my votes go to Peter!!!!

  108. http://beerbybart.com/ It’s not just a valuable guide for how to get to beer in the SF area by train and bus, but the travel beer writing there is worth following.

Also, http://basicbrewing.com/ for intelligent and open-minded brewing conversations, from experts and experimental newcomers alike.

  109. Hereforthebeer.com

  110. Laurie has an unbelievable palate and is an amazing writer: http://100beers30days.wordpress.com/

  111. I love thankheavenforbeer.com because it’s my nephew’s website!

  112. http://thankheavenforbeer.com/
The best insight on beer reviews. The “how to brew” series is great. And the homebrew articles, especially the monster 45% ABV brew.(Unleashing the Fury series) http://thankheavenforbeer.com/2010/03/23/unleashing-the-fury-part-vi-eisbocking-finally-done/

  113. I’m a big fan of the video blogs at http://www.hereforthebeer.com. Tim & Amy do a great job covering some really awesome events and places :) Check ‘em out!

  114. I love thoser crazy Idiots over @beerandwhiskeybros.com, Why, well they’re funny, stupid, smart, stupid, smart, and funny, and because I’m one of ‘em!. Seriously we have a ton of fun, but my shameless self promotion part is done.

My daily reads are Scott over at http://www.thebrewclub.com, Mike and Nate at http://www.thankheavenforbeer.com, and Katie over at http://www.gonzogastronomy.com. Others I check regularly include Peter at SimplyBeer, Dave at the Drunken Ploack, and Mike at Mikelovesbeer.

    Thay’re all great.

  115. I like Brew York, New York for local beer info in NYC. Very straightforward and funny.

  116. I picked Cooking Asshole above, no regrets. But reading the tons of comments here has been really great. I’ve started reading new blogs and went back to some I’d forgotten about. This is a terrific thread.

Who do I subscribe to and read all the time? DosBeerigos.com MikeLovesBeer.com LostInTheBeerAisle.com 100beers30days.wordpress.com CheaperThanTherapy.me

There are lots of awesome beer blogs!

  117. I nominate the hops honey (http://www.thehopshoney.wordpress.com/) — and I’m married to beerfingers (blog.beerfingers.com) so what does that tell you?

  118. Beer Goggins rules!!!!

  119. My favorite beer bloggers are Tim and Amy at HerefortheBeer.com. They’re fun and adventuresome and I am never disappointed by their recommendations. Great job!

  120. http://www.hereforthebeer.com wins my vote.

  121. Definitely Tim and Amy at http://www.hereforthebeer.com

  122. http://www.hereforthebeer.com !

  123. Your visiting one of the largest cities in the world, coming off a 13 hour plane ride, and havent had anything to drink for 5 days (excepting water, juice, and milk) then this is the blog I would recommend you stumble towards. From craft creations to even, hold on to your seats for this, a food pairing with Coors Light, this blog is the one I venture to.

    functionalbeer.com

  124. http://thehopry.com/

  125. Beer Goggins rocks!

  126. I read barleypopmakers beer blog. http://www.barleypopmaker.info. He has a wide range of topics from beer judging and reviews to homebrewing stuff. Seems to be a fairly credible source of beer knowledge. I am actually surprised his blog has not been mentioned here yet.

  127. Ron Pattinson is the Thomas Pynchon of beer bloggers. I never thought tables upon tables of gravity stats could be so engaging. If you haven’t read his labyrinthine and often hilarious blog, Shut Up About Barclay Perkins (http://barclayperkins.blogspot.com/), make haste.

  128. The easy vote is for KalamaBrew

  129. http://www.hereforthebeer.com/ baby!! Tim and Amy’s video spoofs are an entertaining way to find out about events, good beer, and even better, Amy’s hot!!

  130. I have to Echo Brian V.’s recommendation for baleypopmaker. Jason is also an excellent Homebrewer, besides having a great understanding of beer from his experiences as a BJCP judge. Check out his blog for some great reviews and an awesome series on BJCP scoring.

  131. This question is just not fair their are so many good beer blogs with very different prospective. If I want a beer review in plain language I turn to The Beer Babe Reviews. We also follow Chad’s Reviews. The Beer Wench is great! When I want real beer news I turn to Andy Crouch at the Beer Scribe or Tom Bedell. When I want to promote the craft beer industry and have some fun Tim and I make a video for our blog site http://www.hereforthebeer.com

    Craft beer rocks!

  132. The Hops Honey is a knowledgeable, reliable and entertaining source for all things beer! http://thehopshoney.wordpress.com/

  133. Thank Heaven for Beer and Appellation Beer are my regular stops when I am not working on my own blog.

  134. Friends,

The poetic stylings of “The Bachelor Brewer” are akin to his tasty homebrews: ne’er the least bit cloudy, and always bursting with flavor.

That’s “The Bachelor Brewer“: Come for the witbier, stay for the beer wit.

  135. I find a lot of beer blogs boring, puerile, or both. It’s like “Oh boy an IPA release in Portland!” And so many of these blogs mentioned are America-centric and lack global perspective. However, there are a few gems out there. I recently came across this one which I like for its depth of analysis and all that cerebral stuff missing from some of the shriller blogs.
    http://www.beercraftsite.com/
Of course I also like Oakes Weekly, but I’m biased ;)

  136. laurie’s blog is fun to read and packed full of information- she has a witty clever way of describing the tastes, smells, and attributes of each of the beers she reviews, and she always makes me want to have a beer with her!

  137. Have you seen what they are reviewing this week at Http://Dosbeerigos.com ? Holy COW! Dark Lord 2010 and Tactical Nuclear Penguin (TNP)!!! I wonder if they will keep the pattern tomorrow?!

  138. No contest… http://www.hereforthebeer.com!

  139. I love to keep up with the adventures of the Beer and Whiskey brothers, Don and Jim, at http://www.beerandwhiskeybros.com. I also love to read Scott and Bob the Brit’s reviews at http://www.thebrewclub.com. Great stuff!

  140. I love Lost in the Beer Aisle.
    My blog is sad.

  141. Hands down Deverie from hurrabier.com. The blog is educational but funny and accessable. Great for those of us who want to learn more about beer.

  142. Angelo De Ieso with Brewpublic.com is the BEST blogger on the web!

  143. http://www.TheBeerGoddess.com is an AWESOME beer-centric site, and Erin writes a GREAT blog about beer. Beer news, beer events, beer reviews. Awesome!

  144. I also follow http://thebeergodess.com for all of my drinking advise and spiritual needs.

  145. The Beer Goddess is my favorite. The updates are both witty, personable and keep my belly full of delicious brews.

  146. TheBeerGoddess.com for sure. Great interviews and extra perspective for women. Looking forward to more coming.

  147. http://www.TheBeerGoddess.com is an amazing “everything you can know about beer” site. With up to date event calendars, news, and blogs about beer in your neck of the woods! Check out their site! It’s fantastic!

  148. Erin is doing a great job at http://www.thebeergoddess.com/
Check out his site, you’ll get all the beer related info you’d need, imho.

  149. Erin’s beer blog is brilliant and a beer lovers paradise. Her blog is almost as addictive as beer !

  150. Erin’s beer blog at http://www.thebeergoddess.com is brilliant and a beer lovers paradise. Her blog is almost as addictive as beer !

  151. The Beer Goddess!!

  152. The Beer Goddess, of course! http://www.TheBeerGoddess.com
She knows her stuff…er, beer, that is…

  153. TheBeergoddess.com is by far the best website out there. It keeps us well informed and up to date on the new beer news and events out there.

  154. The Beer Goddess! http://www.thebeergoddess.com

  155. http://www.TheBeerGoddess.com !!!!

  156. TheBeerGoddess.com!! No doubt about.

  157. Hmmm, I find it a bit obvious when there is a long string of posts suggesting one site all within a few minutes of each other that it is the work of one person. Heck, I’m happy to just get a few mentions.

  158. The Beer Goddess Gets My Vote!

  159. Hi,
My vote has got to be The Beer Goddess! By far the better blog!!!
    -Jeni

  160. great web site, with great people.

  161. Hi Barleypopmaker, actually I am one person and know for sure that several of these mentions are indeed, different people that read and enjoy The Beer Goddess blog. I did receive something about this poll, so I imagine others did too (at the same time), hence why there are several mentions in a row. I imagine Draft has a way to track this sort of thing, anyway (email, IP address, etc.).

  162. most enjoyed website

  163. I vote for TheBeerGoddess.com!!

  164. I like the beer goddess site because Erin is cool and the site is well done. 67 breweries reviewed in CA alone. We used it when we had a party and rated a bunch of beers since it has a really nice ratings system you can rate by mouthfeel, taste, smell, etc… Nice touch! Make sure to check out the latest beer reviews and the beer garden as well.

  165. Beer Goddess!!!

  166. The Beer Goddess!

    (is my little sister..)
    http://www.thebeergoddess.com

  167. This is my blog - and no, the above mentions/votes are not from one person (that’s ridiculous - there’s a way to track this). They are all members and fans on my website and Facebook fanpage. I’d like to say that there are many great beer blogs out there, my pint is raised to all those that enjoy and write about beer as passionately as I do! And thank you to those that voted for me! :)

  168. There is Good living where there is Good Beer. ‘nough said.
    LOVE ERIN THE BEER GODDESS!

  169. Erin Peters at BeerGoddess.com Of Course!!

  170. And I do visit her website!!
    ..because I do like beer.

    ;-)

  171. Erin - The Beer Goddess- is the biggest baddest beer chick ever. We love The beer goddess.

  172. LOVE Erin’s blog - http://www.thebeergoddess.com - I love her posts and the updates on the all the happenings around town. The Beer Goddess rocks!

  173. I wasn’t accusing the owner of the blog, or once specific blog a all for that matter. It could be one super fan who really wants to plug their favorite blog. So when I said “one person” I probably wasn’t clear that I mean the blog owner. I just noticed that it would go in streaks of different blogs, which I would imagine would happen normally if someone sent a link to vote for their blog. Which is fine. My thoughts were coming about by how quickly people were voting in streaks. Like only minutes or even less apart. It was only an observation. In my mind, the nature of the Internet usually doesn’t have that narrow of a group of people all online at once going to vote. I apologize if my thoughts offended anyone. Maybe I shouldn’t have used term “obviously”, and should have use “appears to me.”

  174. http://www.thebeergoddess.com is the ABSOLUTE BEST!!! Erin rocks!

  175. TheBeerGoddess.com followers don’t waste time. We see an opportunity to vote for our Goddess and we take it. Looks like she has many loyal followers!

  176. theBeerGoddess.com is by far my favorite beer blog. With great tips on the tastiest beers, beer events and more! The Beer Goddess rocks, you have to check her out!

  177. I like The Beer Goddess.

  178. Prosit,Na zdravi,Sante,Skal, bheag, and a BIG CHEERS for thebeergoddess.com Informative and Fun! “Éirinn go brách,”

  179. The Beer Goddess RULES!!! Erin has my vote! Check it out:
    http://www.TheBeerGoddess.com

  180. I vote for The Beer Goddess! http://www.thebeergoddess.com

  181. Orangevale CA We vote for Erin because she drinks beer and both Beer and Erin have 4 letters.

  182. http://www.THEBEERGODDESS.COM

Erin Peters Rocks my beer world!

  187. To Barleypopmaker: As the previous Director of Tech Support for NetZero (the national ISP) I can say two things.

    1. In order for what you say to occur 1 person would need to be logged into many window/email accounts all at the same time. they would then need to craft unique messages for the comments and hit send in a row quickly. If they were committing voting fraud of this nature they would be pretty darn dumb to send out these mails in bunches. However, to continue: before they did all that they would need to create VALID email address accounts on a variety of different services. This would be both tedious and time consuming, even for free accounts. Additionally:

    2. Let me explain how places like Draft Magazine can validate against the type of fraud you are thinking of. They require an email address. They validate the address upon submission or upon vote counting (I don’t run their website so I can’t say which exactly) So again, someone would have to go online and take the time to create 10,20, 50 or 5,000 email addresses to commit this fraud.

    3. Lastly there are programs that can run on servers to tell them if the ballot box is being stuffed if they are running that level of security. They are probably not as this is not a contest where large monies are at stake but this type of security is available if needed.

    4. To address your comment “In my mind, the nature of the Internet usually doesn’t have that narrow of a group of people all online at once going to vote” Having run support ops for ISPs for over 8 years I can tell you that reality is the exact opposite. You will see login #s of users peak very quickly at different times. IE we can tell just by logins when most people arrive home from work and get online in LA vs NY. Conversely we can tell when a new TV show is an outragious hit because we see our logins drop compared to the norm for that day and time. I would bet that if we tracked all the users of all these drinking sites and we knew what they did for a living we might see the following: very few logins in early am….large % of those logins are more serious beer afficiandos, ie home brewers. Hits to the sites in general tick up on Thursdays as people start to plan their weekend. Logins are low on Friday and Saturday nights because the regular fans are out drinking.

I think I explained this stuff pretty well, but let me know if I haven’t.

  188. Ok, so I’m late, just woke up from a binge, but I have to vote for the lady of beer, Erin the Beer Goddess.
