Anheuser-Busch InBev goes green

The greening of booze isn’t just a craft beer trend anymore.
Anheuser-Busch InBev announced new regulations that will help the massive company save the environment. Specifically, it will reduce water use by 30 percent and energy use by 10 percent in the coming years.
According to a story in Environmental Leader, it takes 4.3 hectoliters of water to brew one hectoliter of beer. The AB InBev plans to reduce this figure to 3.5 hectoliters by 2012. (In 2007, it took 5.03 hectoliters.) The goal is possible, as the Cartersville, Ga. brewery only uses 3.1 hectoliters per hectoliter of beer.
AB InBev also plans to chop electricity consumption by using alternative forms of fuel. In total, 15 percent of its U.S. operations will soon run on renewable energy sources.
That’s some nice green news just in time for St. Patty’s Day.
