Hawaii says aloha to organic beer

• Dec 18th, 2009 • Category: Beer Releases

Hawaii, land of lush tropical forests, wind-swept ocean vistas, and volcanos. Sounds natural, yes?

Well, in January, the state will get a bit closer to the earth when Kona Brewing Co. debuts Oceanic Organic, the state’s first organic brew. Hawaii Organic Farmers Association recently certified the brewery as organic and the Belgian style ale was soon to follow.

“We brewed this beer for the first time a few years back, and it was incredibly popular,” Rich Tucciarone, vice president of brewery operations, said in a release. “While it is challenging and expensive for us to acquire the organic ingredients, it is worth it to create such a tasty and unique brew. Beyond the taste, our fans really love the fact that it’s organic!”

We’ll wait for the beer made from lava flows.
