DRAFTMag.com 25 Holiday Beers, Day 1: BridgePort Ebenezer Ale
• Dec 1st, 2009 • Category: holiday beers
Old Scrooge would likely throw a fit of bah humbugs if he knew his namesake beer were a delightfully sweet winter warmer. Deep brown with garnet highlights, BridgePort’s well-crafted seasonal enters the nose with scents of hard candy and wafts of root beer, mint, and hops. Toffee and brown sugar commence the flavor, and aggressive hop bitterness follows. Hops also lend an orange note that lasts throughout the drink and mingles with the brews modest plum and raisin notes — the swallow almost evokes a holiday fruitcake. The mouthfeel’s highly carbonated and medium-full, and showcases a 6.4% ABV — high enough to warm a cold heart, but low enough to prevent a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Drunkenness.
