Los Angeles learns to love beer

• Nov 20th, 2009 • Category: Beer News

The Los Angeles beer bar scene is exploding — probably at least partially thanks to our coverage of the city.

But is it too much of a good thing, too quickly?

“Los Angeles has always been slow on the uptake in terms of craft beer, and my philosophy is that beer wasn’t sexy enough, it wasn’t slick enough,” says Christina “the beer chick” Perozzi. “L.A. has a huge nightclub and cocktail culture rather than a tavern and pub culture. It took a while to catch on, but now that it has, it’s exploding. We might be getting oversaturated.”

Probably not. We’re just glad that when we visit L.A. and we want a beer, we’ll have choices beyond Father’s Office.

  1. I wouldn’t say it is over saturated yet. LA is a big place and the good bars are spread out. Eagle Rock, Santa Monica and Redondo Beach are all pretty far from each other. It’s great to see each community develop their own beer scene.

  2. LA maybe be the weakest beer city I know, it’s hard to find a good craft beer. The city is so large and unfortunately the beer distribution is limited. SD has some of best breweries in the country, SF has great ones too. But just trying to buy a really good craft beer thats not from there is super tough.,
