University of Wisconsin says no to Bud, Miller

• Aug 27th, 2009 • Category: Beer News

You can still listen to University of Wisconsin (alma mater of DRAFT managing editor Jessica Daynor) football games on the radio, but you won’t be hearing any beer ads.

In an effort to curb alcohol abuse, the school officially ended its long-standing advertising relationship with MillerCoors and Anheuser-Busch InBev.

The deals were worth $425,000 annually but school officials say the revenue wasn’t worth the price.

“It hurts the athletic department financially but they are stepping up and taking one for the team,” Vince Sweeney, vice chancellor for university relations, told the Associated Press. “This was an approach that people felt would have a positive impact on the ongoing battle [against alcohol abuse].”
