China brews A LOT of beer

For the eighth year in a row, China is the world’s biggest producer of beer. During the first half of 2009, the country’s beer output jumped six percent to roughly 20.51 million tons. That compares favorably to the United States (12 million tons) and Germany (six million tons).
Interestingly, the country’s top three producers — Snow Beer, Tsingtao, and Yanjing Beer — only account for 40 percent of the market. The rest of the 248 breweries share the remaining 60 percent. The U.S.’s biggest breweries account for more than 80 percent of beer production.
Who knew Communism was so good for competition?
