Gallup reports Americans still enjoy drinking

Depending on whom you ask, we’re currently embroiled in a recession or the Greatest Depression or the end of the world as we know it. Drinkers, of course, feel fine.
According to a new Gallup poll, the habits of people who enjoy alcohol are staying steady despite the economic turmoil. Sixty-four percent of the population drinks, which “falls within the narrow 62% to 66% range seen over the past decade.” Additionally, “the average number of drinks consumed per drinker in the past week is 4.8. That is up slightly from 2008, but is similar to the figures for several years prior to that.”
Beer continues to be the drink of choice, checking in at 40 percent, roughly similar to survey results from the last three years (and higher than the figure in 2004 and 2005). Good news: we’ll have a job for a little while longer yet.
