Tasting Notes: Full Sail Imperial Porter

You don’t really see many seasonal porters debuting in springtime, but we dig the idea. Velvety black with a frothy brown head and slivers of red along the edges, Full Sail’s big-boned Imperial Porter smells of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee. The flavors mimic the aroma, while an added level of peppery hops grips the tongue and a more pronounced coffee presence provides a pleasantly complex sideshow. A big body and creamy carbonation cuts the heaviness of the beer; it’s beers like this truly blur the line between imperial stouts and imperial porters. It finishes slightly sweet and fruity. Hefty and stuffed with flavor, the beer’s only downfall is its oversized bottle; it’d be easier to appreciate in a smaller quantity.
