Tasting Notes: Green’s Endeavour

We saw The View’s Elisabeth Hasselbeck squawking about gluten-free food this morning on Good Morning America. Don’t get us wrong; we may not always agree with her political spewings, but we like Elisabeth well enough. (And like Sherri could have endured season two of “Survivor?” Please.) Anyway, it dawned on us that Elisabeth — and all of you folks out there with Celiac Disease — would enjoy Green’s Endeavour, a gluten-free dubbel we’ve been enjoying as of late.
A straightforward caramel aroma with some smooth alcohol notes and a low yeast character drifts up from Endeavor’s thick, frothy head — not as complex as a dubbel nose should be, but pleasant all the same. The flavor begins chocolaty, followed by undertones of caramel; though mildly peppery, the hops are insignificant. The drink goes down full and carbonated, and finishes sweet. A bit of table sugar sweetness lingers in the aftertaste. In all, it’s a decent dubbel, and even more decent when you consider the fact that it allows Celiacs to drink craft beer.
