Czech Budweiser defeats American Budweiser in name game

• Mar 25th, 2009 • Category: Beer News

Anheuser-Busch InBev will have to find another name for Budweiser in the European Union. The Continent’s second-highest court upheld a ruling keeping the brewing conglomerate from being able to trademark the word Budweiser.

Czech brewer Budejovicky Budvar, makers of Budweiser Budvar, opposed the trademark.

Anheuser-Busch has been pursuing the right to market its beer as Busweiser since 1996, when it applied to trademark its “beer, ale, porter, malted alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages” at such.
