Beer (March) madness
By Noah Davis • Mar 19th, 2009 • Category: Beer News
This slipped by our radar until now, but the Washington Post has been running a “Beer Madness” experiment, featuring 32 beers facing off in an NCAA basketball tournament-style bracket.
They divided the beer world into four categories — Lagers, Ales, Dark Beers, and Specialty and Fruit — and pitted the best against each other. Right now, the final four is occurring with The Raven Special Lager battling Troegs HopBack Amber Ale and Ommegang Hennepin taking on Brooklyn Brown Ale. Winners will be announced later today.
While some of the choices surprise us (Budweiser American Ale in the quarterfinals?), it’s nice to see such a mainstream publication trying to support our little beer world. Next time, though, call us before you make your picks, okay? We wouldn’t fill out our NCAA brackets without going to ESPN.com; you shouldn’t make any beer decisions without consulting the beer world experts.

Interesting. We’re doing a little March madness thing as well, the winner gets some beer from the rest of the group, so its a beer/basketball tie in.
I never thought of a “Beer Madness” thing, but like you said seeing American Ale in the quarters??? How did Bud Light Lime even qualify at all?????
