Soccer hooligans invade the beer world

By Noah Davis • Dec 18th, 2008 • Category: Beer News

The Brits are out of control. Yesterday they were telling the European Union to stick its “half-liter” terminology where the sun don’t shine, and now multiple groups are trying to get a brewery to name a beer after their favorite soccer team.

Scottish brewery Brewdog recently set up a contest that allows anyone to submit ingredients and a name for the brewery’s new beer. Celtic fans have suggested Lubobeer Moravcik, while Rangers supporters have offered Ger-onimo.

Despite working with beer all day, James Watt, managing director of BrewDog, is actually kind of a downer as “he admitted that none of the suggested football names had a chance of making the final.” (And this from a man who named a beer after a famous drug cocktail.)
