Holiday-ish beers, round 12: Imperial Malt Ball Stout
By Noah Davis • Dec 15th, 2008 • Category: Tasting notes
Every year, San Diego craft brewery Karl Strauss hands one of its brewmasters the keys to the castle and lets him or her develop a special holiday recipe. For this season’s version, Ian Young got his sweet-tooth on, mixing Briess malt balls into the stout for a result that’s chocolate and caramel and everything nice.
The result, Karl Strauss Imperial Malt Ball Stout, is an 8.5% ABV beverage which boasts a “rich, full-bodied stout with loads of chocolate flavor and a subtle sweetness imparted from the malt balls.” In December, you can find it at the six Karl Strauss Brewery Restaurant locations and other good beer bars across SoCal.
