Holiday-ish beers, Round 3: Brrr!
By Noah Davis • Nov 19th, 2008 • Category: Tasting notes
Dear Widmer Brothers,
What were you thinking? Leaving us without a winter seasonal for four long years? Your new seasonal, Brrr!, is so heavenly, we would have loved to sip on a few in between hefeweizens over the last 1,460 days. It’s everything a good red ale should be, and the sneaky 7.15% ABV is what’s gonna get us through all of this holiday family time. The perfect balance of hops and malt plus that kick of citrus makes it excruciating to know that you’re going to yank it away when winter’s over. Just promise us we won’t have to go another four years without!
Love,

Tasting Notes:
The beer begins with a truly wonderful citrus aroma with what seems to be wafts of peach — an excellent first impression of this impressive beer. This red ale strikes the ideal chord of malt and hops; they both stand out, but also complement each other. Fresh with scrubby carbonation on the tongue, the hit of harvest-fruit sweetness in the middle of the sip is a nice departure from the darker winter seasonals out there.

I was a huge fan of this beer. I tried it last week in a taping for our show. Very nice nose with a very balanced taste. Always a fan of the Widmer Bros.
